Is this for you?
- First off, read the about Flaming Fish page to make sure you fit in with our mandate.
- Next, check out our call for submissions list to see if what you have is what we need.
- Finally, continue reading to make sure you agree with our approach on money and copyright and whatnot, then follow our submission guidelines.
What you get
- promotion. Face it - your music will get far more exposure as a free download on a highly-trafficked site than almost anything the independent music scene can offer. If you want to be heard, people are ready to listen here.
- feedback. Each release page includes a commenting area, so you get instant fan response to your work.
What you don't get
- money. All releases on the netlabel are offered free of charge to listeners. There is a PayPal donation button on the site, but any money collected there goes to cover direct costs such as hosting and bandwidth. If there's anything left over, it will be used to promote the label through advertising and other promotion. And if we're really rolling in it, we'll look at possibilities like physical releases or perhaps a stage at Cornerstone Festival. The first 10% of all donations go to charity.
- tied down. Agreements with Flaming Fish are non-exclusive and all rights to the songs used remain with the artist. Songs offered through Flaming Fish are licensed through Creative Commons.
Submission guidelines
In order to be considered, we have to hear your stuff first.
This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
your non-enormous mp3s or better yet, direct us to link for your music files. Our review committee will check it out and get back to you if there's a good fit with an upcoming release.
For each accepted submission, we need:
- songs on CD (mailing address here) or in CD-quality .wav or .aiff format.
- lyrics , credits, and any commentary you want to include with each song (ie. what the song means or other interesting info).
- a cover image at 1425x1425 pixels, plus a back cover image of the same size, preferably with a track listing. If you need help, we can provide this.
- a brief band bio and any links you want included.
