Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison

It’s out!

Well it’s been out for a while now I suppose... I made a special trip yesterday to finally go pickup a copy for myself. I’m glad I did, the album doesn’t disappoint. While they are moving in more of a rock direction, there’s still some shades of electronics in the album, and to good effect. I can’t say there is a song I dislike on this one. It’s just a great straightforward collection of songs. Although, I particularly like how it ends on the note of Frozen Oceans, probably my favorite song.

Anyone else into Shiny Toy Guys around here? What ya’ll think?

On a side note: They list a stop at Cornerstone this year for their tour. That’s an interesting development for them as a band. I’d love to here about that performance from those of you who may attend this year.

On a side note: However much I like their music, there hasn’t been one music video that they have produced that has impressed me. The latest one, for thier song Ghost town is like some strange blend of Fantasia’s Night on Bald Mountain, and Scooby-Doo. Freakin’ weird. I was laughing the whole time...

Common guys, time to discus some music!

Re:Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
<--- Shiny Toy Guns fan.
Yeah, it was a very different feel. I don't know how I like it yet. The first time I listened to it, I loved it. Now, it's not the same. I like a couple of the songs for sing-a-long value, but some of it is really obscure and doesn't lend itself easily to the ear.
I kinda miss Cara Fay too.
So, do you like the new female vocals?

Re:Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
Ya’ know, that’s been a topic amongst another friend and myself. Until I had actually picked up the album and could read the liner notes I wasn’t even sure that the former female vocalist was still with STG. I was certain that the vocals were from a different person on the songs Ghost Town and Ricochet!, but on Frozen Oceans I wasn’t so sure. But yeah, all the songs are with the new vocalist, Sisely Treasure. Given the fact that I was getting them mixed up I’d say she’s pretty good. She certainly fills out the aggressive rock sound really well. And on the more mellow tracks, including the return of Turned to Real Life (a song from the first version of their We Are Pilots album, but was missing from the third version) she comes out very clearly, so I guess my bottom line is that I approve of her. I’m clueless about why there was a change, but the band’s music hasn’t suffered, so I won’t complain.

Re:Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
the thing with the vocalist was that they originally wanted Sisely, but she was busy with other project, or some such, so they took Cara, this time Sisely was available, so they took her

Personally, though Sisely is very good, I like Cara a little more, she had a "punkier" vibe to her, which I liked

Re:Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
Can't say as I've heard of them before, but not bad - Ricochet has kind of a Marilyn Manson feel to it. As for the Ghost Town video, I say it owes more to Gorillaz than Scooby-Doo, but I agree that there's definitely a lot of Night on Bald Mountain there.

Can't comment on the vocalist situation until I've heard more of their stuff...

Re:Shiny Toy Guns - Season of Poison
wouldn't call them a christian band, although some if not all the members are Christians and have Christian band roots.

They do keep their content positive and that is a good thing. I like both albums and both vocalist, but I think Sisely is my fav. Cara was really good. Band is still great.

Would really like to find the two earlier versions of WAP. Anyone know where to look?
