The Eternal Chapter - The Eternal Chapter 02. Leave Me Words of darkness in a twisted place, walls drip sickness Tales of a dreaming man, all storms turn into a sigh Looking at the tower faces of destruction laughing Many a tree fallen, in no, in no memory Show me the love in this, Leave me now Days are dying behind you, and a life so lost For you killed a man, and sorrow . . . It haunts you never And now at the graves of so many words I find my tears and forced confusion In this cup I found the poisons of regret All spirits abandoned The mind of many halls and empty thoughts For in this, we are dead We are dead Words of darkness in a twisted place, walls drip sickness Tales of a dreaming man, all storms turn into a sigh Looking at the tower faces of destruction laughing Many a tree fallen, in no...in no memory Show me the love in this, Leave me now 03. You Can't Let Me Die I clasp your remains in my hands All my hope is forever Yours Forsake me not, forsake me not I dream my dreams in Your arms I fear everything You can't let me die You can't let me die Until your sorrow is black upon my heart Your pain is desperately tearing me apart I feel the fire of an eternal light I touch the cold and desolate night Your tears, fallen into my life Breaking up the past Broken up inside Broken up inside Once have I made a path through the dusk, And sought your dying self. For faith and grace For faith and grace Until your sorrow is black upon my heart Your pain is desperately tearing me apart I feel the fire of an eternal light I touch the cold and desolate night Until your sorrow is black upon my heart Your pain is desperately tearing me apart I feel the fire of an eternal light I touch the cold and desolate night 04. Still Haunting In forever I've promised... That the starts have fallen down That the lives of those who loved are gone Forever I promised you Forever I feel for you Why are you still haunting? When are you to love me? When am I to kill me? And I can feel the separation As blood drips from her aggravation What is more to say? What is more to feel? And I fear, and I fear... Why are you still haunting? When are you to love me? When am I to kill me? I promise I'll take the hurt for you Forever feel the pain for you What else can I say? Forever has gone away, Why are you still haunting? When are you to love me? When am I to kill me? Every time death comes for me What is there to say? Death, take me away... For I can't live another day In you, I promised you 05. Death In the Water Alone I wait in hiding for you Left to the winter night again The cold steals my life away I feel You around me Your heart beating next to mine The end of mortality Breathing it's last inside of me I feel You around me Your heart beating next to mine The end of mortality Breathing it's last inside of me Alone I wait in hiding for you The others watch as I embrace You The dusk you love will come back to haunt you And I will watch from the gates of infinity I feel you around me Your heart beating next to mine The end of mortality Breathing it's last inside of me. 06. On Her Wings She's looking for the answer She's trying to find the doorway In her hell of hearts, she calls for me no more Arrayed in ghostly white, I call for you This night is death, and death is in you We’re all looking for her soul In her flight toward heaven We're all looking for her soul On a pathway into hell In her flight toward heaven On a pathway into hell 07. Only the Lost I walk over to where you are standing Waiting before me Calling my name My days turn black A soul before you All I could ask for Is all in vain Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? All of my pain and this void in my hand Searching for Angels but never closer to the answer Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? You have given my life away You ask if I'd love you A fear for the people Running for my life My days turn black A soul before you All I could ask for Is all in vain Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? All of my pain and this void in my hand Searching for Angels but never closer to the answer Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? All of my pain and this void in my hand Searching for angels but never closer to the answer All of my pain and this void in my hand Searching for Angels but never closer to the answer Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? Who am I to wait for you? Who am I to lie for you? 09. Through the Darkest Night Lay me down in pale splendour To your screams I shall surrender I dread the clawing of your heart Such are the days of love Cast me from your thoughts And wrench my soul apart We ran through the darkest night Where wolves and devils our hearts did spite Call my name out loud And I shall come no more Now I want to die alone I'm going to heaven Lord, have mercy on me please Sorry for my deeds but I am gone Blood has stained, nothing ever gained What are you, who do I see in you We ran through the darkest night Where wolves and devils our hearts did spite Call my name out loud And I shall come no more We ran through the darkest night Where wolves and devils our hearts did spite Call my name out loud And I shall come no more Note on the lyrics: Most of The Eternal Chapter’s lyrics were written by Jaco Visser and he was typically evasive when it came to interpreting them. In an interview he once described the subject matter as intensely personal and emotive. In hindsight, some of the lyrics seem to be quite sad as is perhaps fitting of a Goth band! Sadly, Jaco is no longer with us and, as such, cannot be asked for an interpretation. The other lyrics were written by me and many of them express what I felt at the time was the immense conflict that many of my friends (and myself) had with organised religion. That said, I hope that the lyrics to songs like You Can’t Let Me Die and A Love Untrue adequately convey a sense of hope and faith alongside the moments of inevitable despair. We were certainly encouraged by one girl who had heard You Can’t Let Me Die on the radio and had claimed that the song had made her decide against her own suicide. It is perhaps because of the multivalent nature of poetic language that one is reluctant to pin down an interpretation. Finally, the song Outside is quite obviously about drug abuse. We had all been touched by the tragedy of losing friends to overdoses and serious addiction. Rather than an anti-drug song, this song is an elegy of sorts, a lament about wasted life. I hope that you enjoy the music and that it stands as a tribute to Jaco who poured so much of himself into it. Blessings, Thomas W, 29/01/2008
